Over the years, Durham Area Youth has been recognised for their commitment to the young people in the wider community and showcased at a number of awards evenings locally and regionally.
High Sheriff Awards 2026
We were lucky enough to receive a £2,000.00 High Sheriff Award in February 2026. We will allocate this to developing our new volunteer in training programme, allowing young people from the age of 12, who attend our sessions to start their volunteering experience with DAY.
We can’t wait to kick off the project with the first VITs (Volunteers In Training) starting in the next few months.
Our newest staff member, Sophie Chicken, was shortlisted for the Young Person of the Year Award at the The Northern Echo County Durham Together Awards in December 2025

WINNER- NE Youth Projects with Pride Awards 2023 – Social Action of the Year awarded for the Mental Health Suicide Prevention video.
We took a group of young people to the NE Youth Projects with Pride Awards, where our Mental Health Campaign Video won Social Action of the Year 2023. This video was created to highlight the issues young people face- especially males with regard to their mental health. Our video had aim of raising more awareness around suicide and how young people can seek support if they are ever struggling as they are not alone and that their voice matters. This was a great social action project which gave young people the opportunity to play main roles in the video as well as helping behind the scenes with the camera filming.

HIGHLY COMMENDED- Northeast Charity Awards 2023- Durham Area Youth- Small Charity of the Year.
Our staff and adult volunteers attended the Northeast Charity Awards as a finalist in the category of Small Charity of the Year. We were so proud to be amongst some many amazing charities and individuals from across the charity sector in the region.
We have been successful with a High Sheriff Award 2023, where we were excited to hear we received a prize of £2000! This will be used for a celebration event and talent show in which young people will be planning and delivering with the support from Staff.
We received nominations from NE Youth Pride Awards 2021 where the staff and young people were entered into a number categories. We were over the moon to see our very own young person Bobbie receive the award of young volunteer of the year. She provides fantastic support to the youth forum, core sessions and community events. We are all very proud of everything she does for DAY and her community.
WE WON Community and Voluntary Group Award at the Northern Echo County Durham Together Awards in December 2021.

We have received nominations from NE Youth Pride Awards where the staff and young people were entered into the categories of Young Person of the Year, Youth Worker of the Year and Young Volunteers and Outstanding Youth Provision. Although we were not successful, we are humbled by the recognition of these nominations
